Whomp's Fortress is a mobile flying fortress helmed by the Whomp King.

History

The Whomp King built this fortress as part of his revenge towards the people he deemed ungrateful for using stone day by day without thanking the material.[1]

Super Mario 64

Several Power Stars were hidden at the fortress as part of Bowser's invasion of Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64. One Power Star was built inside the fortress itself.[2]

Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario entered Whomp's Fortress in search of returning the Power Stars to the castle. King Whomp was fought here and, after a battle with him, a tower was created on top of the fortress housing another Power Star.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Whomp's Fortress moved to Throwback Galaxy, but not without some problems along the way; the grassy area at the southeast of the fortress broke off. The fortress was part of Bowser's plan during Super Mario Galaxy 2, as his flag could be seen at the pole part of the fortress.

Mario, riding the Starship Mario, encountered the fortress again in his travels during Super Mario Galaxy 2. The Whomp King had managed to steal another Power Star which Mario managed to retrieve after a fight with him at the underside of the fortress.[3]

Two more Power Stars were retrieved, the latter one being a result of a Speedy Comet. After Bowser's plan had ended, a Green Comet showered multiple Green Stars on several galaxies, including Whomp's Fortress. Mario returned and managed to grab all three of the new stars that appeared.[4]

General information

The fortress is generally made of yellow or brown stone, with a green garden-like area added to all sides but the northeast. The general shape of the fortress from the top-down is rectangular, but the climb upwards requires effort with Bomps, Thwomps, and Whomps guarding the path upwards.

Small, grassy floating islands used to be on the fortress, but had been removed later on.

The construction is airborne and can move to different places, seeing as the motivation behind the fortress' construction is based on conflict from Mario's Planet, but had been moved to Throwback Galaxy during Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Inhabitants

The fortress is ruled by the Whomp King. As a result, many stone-based spirits roam the place such as the Whomps themselves and Thwomps. There are also Piranha Plants that were planted intentionally via the building's design.

Hoot used to live inside one of the trees, but moved after the fortress' move towards Throwback Galaxy.
