Shy Guys come from space and are related to the alien octopuses
Abstract
This theory builds upon a previous High Consensus Theory about octopuses, which is recommended reading for understanding the context of this theory.
Arguments
- Argument 1: Snifits, which according to Mario Party Superstars are Shy Guys with different masks, have circular, protruding mouths on their masks which they shoot bullets or fireballs from. These mouths are incredibly similar to those found on the likes of Octoombas and Roctos, from which said species shoot various forms of ammunition, including bullets and fireballs.
- Argument 2: “Gunk Ball” is a Special Attack performed by Snifits, Snifsters and their relatives in Super Mario RPG, where they shoot the titular ball of gunk from their mouths at their foes. This attack is also performed identically by the octopus enemies Octolots and Octovaders. The name “Octovader” in particular appears to be a portmanteau of octopus and invader, once again connecting back to extraterrestrial origin.
- Argument 3: The connection between Snifit masks and alien octopus mouths is highlighted in Super Mario Odyssey, where the helmets of Astro-Lanceurs found on the moon have metal mouthpieces that strongly resemble those found on Snifit masks.
- Argument 4: In Mario Party 8, alien Shy Guys with metallic bodies, such as Captain Shy Guy, make an appearance on Bowser's Warped Orbit and run Shy Guy's Space Buffet. Several of these Shy Guys appear on the moon in the “Test for the Best” Minigame, similarly to the octopuses found on the moon in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario Odyssey. These alien Shy Guys also have antennae protruding from the tops of their heads, much like those found on the heads of Octoombas, Roctos and their relatives.
- Argument 5: Octoguys from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are relatives of Octoombas and relate to Shy Guys through their names.
- Argument 6: Megaleg and Digga-Leg, bosses in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 respectively feature faces that strongly resemble Snifit masks.
