Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels was the second kidnapping of Princess Peach by the Koopa Troop.

But just when Mario had saved Peach, she is kidnapped again. Journeying through 5 more worlds, Mario reached Peach, finally saving her and freeing the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser's control.[6]

All of the Toads were likely returned to their original form via Peach's magic after this event.
