Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. was the first in a long line of conflicts between the Koopa Kingdom and the Mushroom Kingdom. It was also the first time the adult Bowser kidnapped Princess Peach and the adult Mario and Luigi's call into action in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Before the Mario Bros. had arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser and his Koopa Troop had invaded the land. During the invasion, many of the Goombas that lived there betrayed the Toads to join Bowser. As part of the invasion, Bowser magically turned many of the Kingdom's Toads into stones, bricks, and field horsehair plants. Seven Toads who served in Peach's court were also kidnapped along with Princess Peach herself, as only she could undo Bowser's spell.[1]

Meanwhile, at the Mario Bros' plumbing service in New Donk City, Mario and Luigi got a call to inspect the underground pipeline due to some pests coming out of them, which they soon found out were Koopa Troopas. Opening a way forward via the Koopa's shells, they made their way out of the underground and into the Mushroom Kingdom.[2]

Being told of the Mushroom Kingdom's plight, both Mario and Luigi set out to journey across 8 worlds to help free the unfortunate inhabitants. Along the way, many of the brick-turned Toads reward the two with several power-ups, including Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Super Stars.[1]

After saving the seven Mushroom Retainers from their Fake Bowsers, the Mario Bros. had reached a montainous area in which Bowser has built his final castle. Defeating the real Bowser there, Princess Peach was ultimately rescued from captivity.[3] After being freed, Peach likely used her magic to undo Bowser's spell, returning every Toad back to their original bodies.
