The Subcons are a peaceful fairy-like species that reside in the Dream World, more specifically in the kingdom of Subcon, where they are led by their king named Ōsama.
History
Super Mario Bros. 2
Just before the events of Super Mario Bros. 2, Subcon was attacked by the 8 bits, led by Wart, who brought the Subcon under his spell and put them in a jar. Desperate for help, the Subcon appear in Mario's, Luigi's, Peach's and Toad's dream, where they plead for the help of these heroes and tell them that Wart is weak to vegetables. So Mario and his embarks on a journey through Subcon to defeat Wart and the 8 bits. Once Wart is defeated, the Subcon celebrate and beat up Wart, before Mario and his friends return to the real world. At one point, the Subcons build the Golden Mario statues, which are renowned as symbols of peace.
BS Super Mario USA
Ever the previous events, Mario and his think that their adventure was just a dream, but while the heroes are awake, Wart attacks once again and overthrows the king and take the kingdom once more under their control. Meanwhile, Mouser steals the Golden Mario statues and hides them all over Subcon. Mario and his friends defeat Wart's forces and bring back the Golden Mario Statues before going back home.
