Pauline is kidnapped by Donkey Kong, a gorilla owned by her then-boyfriend, Mario. Donkey Kong takes Pauline up to the top of a building in New Donk City. Mario eventually reaches the top of the building, defeating Donkey Kong and rescuing Pauline.
