Princess Peach Toadstool is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, and one of the seven star children. Peach is often kidnapped by Bowser during his many attacks on the Mushroom Kingdom and other areas or by other villains, but she occasionally plays a more active role in fighting them, such as in the Koopa invasion of the Sprixie Kingdom.

History

Early Life

Princess Peach was born some time after Mario & Luigi and lived in Mushroom Castle from a very young age, if not from birth.[1][2][3] As a baby, she was raised and protected by Toadsworth, her middle-aged steward and retainer.[4] To commemorate her birth, a clock was also purchased.[5]

Yoshi’s Island DS

In Yoshi's Island DS, Peach was kidnapped from the Mushroom Castle along with every other baby in the world by Kamek and Bowser from the future. The stork managed to free her and Mario from the Toadies' grasp and she landed peacefully on Yoshi's Island with her parasol.

She rode on the Yoshis from time to time, aiding them with her parasol to reach heights if there was a gust of wind.[6] She was kidnapped by an Ukiki, but was rescued after a short while.[7][8]

After future Bowser's defeat, Peach was returned to her home safely.[9]

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Past)

Childhood

Princess Peach was taught how to be a princess by the ministers, with the Chancellor having a fair deal of control of the Kingdom while Peach was growing up and into her adult life.[10][11][12] The princess' chambermaid, Grandma, also likely had a hand in raising her. During these years, she was taught to be delicate and to help people in need.[10][13] She also spent time playing games in the Castle's Rec Room during this period.[14]

Adulthood

At some point, she met fellow royalty, Princess Daisy of Sarasaland and Prince Pine of Jewelry Land, both of which she became good friends with.

Super Mario Bros.

In Super Mario Bros., one day, the Mushroom Kingdom was suddenly attacked by the Koopa Troop, led by Bowser. All of her subjects were cursed into stones, bricks, and even field horse-hair plants by the Koopa King’s magic. She held the power to undo this magic, so she was kidnapped and held at Bowser’s Castle.[15]

Later on, the Mario Bros. arrived at Bowser’s Castle and threw Bowser inside the castle’s lava pit. Grateful, she kissed the Bros. for restoring peach to her kingdom before returning back to the Mushroom Kingdom and restoring all the Toads back to normal.[16]

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels

In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Peach was kidnapped again by Bowser in an invasion attempt very much similar to the previous one. Once again, she held the power to undo the magic Bowser had casted on her subjects, so she was taken and held inside a castle inside a parallel world.[17]

When she was freed by the Mario Bros., she kissed the two in gratitude before being kidnapped again. When she was freed again, she kissed the two in gratitude again and returned to the Mushroom Kingdom to undo the spell cast to her people, returning them back to their regular Toad selves.

Super Mario Bros. (Game & Watch)

In Super Mario Bros. (Game & Watch), Peach was kidnapped by Bowser and taken to a castle. This time, Peach had enough foresight to hide several Super Stars and 1-Up Mushrooms along the path for Mario to help him. Peach then wrote a letter directed to Mario, asking for his help to save her as soon as he could.

Along Mario’s journey, she used her magic to project an illusion of herself to guide Mario to the next world. When she was freed, she returned to the Mushroom Kingdom.[18]

Donkey Kong (Modern)

In Donkey Kong (Modern), after some time without any attacks, Peach was suddenly kidnapped by Donkey Kong who had recently arrived here because of an earlier event. Peach was taken higher and higher by Donkey Kong, but she was saved by Mario.[19]

Super Mario Bros. 3

In Super Mario Bros. 3, after a long, peaceful time at the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach receives a letter asking for help: the Koopalings are spreading chaos all across the Mushroom World. She asked for the Mario Bros.’s assistance to help save those kingdoms, which the Bros. happily accept.[20] All throughout their journey, Peach sends letters of advice to the brothers, along with sending them an item that will help protect them.[21]

As this invasion of the Mushroom World happened, Bowser soon arrived to kidnap Peach to take her to his castle in Dark Land. Thankfully, she was saved soon by the Mario Bros before declaring that peace once again reigns over the Mushroom Kingdom.[22]

Super Mario World

In Super Mario World, Mario & Luigi needed to recuperate from their adventures in Super Mario Bros. 3. Together they agreed that the best place to vacation was a magical place called Dinosaur Land, and Peach joined the two on their vacation.[23] But while the brothers were out flying across the land with their capes, Peach was then kidnapped and brought to Bowser’s Castle inside the Valley of Bowser.[24]

When the Mario Bros. appeared to confront Bowser on top of his castle, Peach was able to aid the brothers by throwing down a Super Mushroom their way. After the Koopa King’s defeat, everyone was able to continue their vacation on Dinosaur Land.[25]

Rain Shower (Modern) (Easy)

In Rain Shower (Modern) (Easy), when Peach saw Mario, Toad, and Donkey Kong Jr. relaxing on some clotheslines, she joined the group by swinging around on one. Unbeknownst to her, Bowser was throwing colored water balloons on top of her, and Mario tried his best to avoid getting her hit.[26]

Dr. Mario

Peach worked in the Mushroom Kingdom Hospital as a nurse, specifically in the virus research lab to analyze the viruses that came from space.[27] Due to an out-of-control experiment, the viruses were spreading quickly and she had to notify Mario of the incident.[28] No one was injured or caught a virus.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

While sitting around some flowers in front of Mario's house, Bowser swept in and kidnapped her into his castle. Mario manages to defeat Bowser, but that's when the abrupt invasion of the Smithy Gang began with Exor slicing its way into Bowser's Castle.

The impact launched Peach all the way onto Booster Tower, where Booster locked her on top of his tower until he could make the preparations of marrying her. Bowser does eventually find her, including Mario and the gang. After climbing their way to the top, Booster was ready to marry her, so he brings her over to Marrymore with everyone else giving chase. The marriage was luckily ended and Peach could return safely to the Mushroom Castle.

Peach requests to help the group out in stopping the Smithy Gang, but the Toad Minister forbid her from joining the group. She went to her room, but sneaked out by jumping off her bedroom window to join the group anyway. She was with the group all the way, even buying a frying pan as a weapon in Moleville, till the Smithy Gang's defeat, where she and Mario could return home safely with a victory parade celebrating their win.

Chef (Modern)

Peach took to juggling a bunch of food thrown at her by Mario & Luigi. When she had cooked enough food by juggling it with her cooking pan, she threw it at Yoshi’s way for him to eat.[29] Sometimes she'd cook outside the castle.

Fire (Modern)

A fire may have broken out because of Peach's cooking.[30]

Mario Clash

Peach was there to witness Mario performing a trick show where he collected a bunch of coins.[31] After scaling the Clash House Tower some more, she praised Mario’s progress by saying “Fantastic!”[32]

Yoshi's Safari

Mario had heard of Bowser invading Jewelry Land, taking its 12 gems, and asked Mario and Yoshi at the Mushroom World to help return peace to the kingdom.[33] Mario and Yoshi returned to Peach when they were done saving the land.

Personality

As the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach is well-loved by her subjects,[37] images of her boosting people's spirits and also comforting them when she's gone.[38][39] She holds a voice of great beauty, and the only one to hold a pure and noble soul.[40] As expected from those first impressions, Peach naturally loves everyone and everything,[41] always working to create a world where everyone can live together happily.[42] She shows nobility and grace.[43] Although she likes rainbows,[44] her most favorite color of all is pink, otherwise she wouldn't be decorating herself and the castle with it.

As a princess, she's often seen as the epitome of grace,[45] a generally sophisticated and genteel princess that loves baking and cooking [46][47][42]. However, likely thanks to Mario, Peach has been able to really let loose in several events such as Mario Parties or sports.[48] During tennis, she's described to have superb footwork, with lethal aim making her something beautiful to behold.[49][50] At golf, she's got a high degree of control making her adore it.[51][52] Her sweet side, often seen during her baking, also makes her competitive as seen during Mario Party 8's Star Carnival's prize of a year's supply of candy.[53] This competitiveness used to make her emotional and lash out towards her teammates when losing,[54] but she's learned to temper those emotions.[55]

Her karting skills are described to have "reckless abandon".[56] Even while she's dressed on vacation, she'll put in the time to drift down tracks,[57] with the chillest of courses or slickest of straightaways not slowing her down as she aims for first place.[58][59] She really likes to race.

It's likely that this thrill of the fast winds is why she also likes flying in the Clown Car,[60] but Peach really doesn't like the circumstances behind it; being kidnapped.[61] While kidnapped by the X-Nauts, she threatened to spit on TEC-XX when he asked if she could teach him what love meant.[62] During Paper Mario, she described Bowser as the single greatest disaster to have ever befallen the Mushroom Kingdom.[63] By calming down after the fact, Peach makes with what she has, either by using TEC to send e-mails to Mario, sending power-ups to Mario, or even trying to escape herself.[64] The times where she's attempted to evade capture often end up in failure, either due to the Koopa Troop's overwhelming power, or a plan of hers simply didn't work.[65] Some say that an all-Toad security force could be the problem,[66] but strengthening her forces as a solution is out of the question, as she's never been about abusing power.[67]

Her mischievious planning side is also quite noteworthy,[68] being noted to have a great ability to read every situation and tricking her opponents.[69][70] When warned beforehand of Cackletta planning to steal her voice, Peach pulled a switcheroo by having Cackletta and Fawful steal Birdo's voice instead, undermining their whole operation of obtaining the Beanstar.[71]

Peach has a very specific view of love. To her, love tells you when you want to be with a person forever. That it makes you feel happy just to see that person happy, smiling, having fun. To love someone, you will do anything to help when they're in trouble.[72] Love is not anything to comprehend, but feel.

Relationships

Mario

One of the things Peach loves to do is to spend time with Mario. Either through inviting him for cake,[73] walking outside of the castle with him,[34] catching some underwater treasure from a giant squid,[74] chatting with him on the castle's balcony,[75] or just picking flowers outside his house,[76] spending time with him always makes her happy. She always looks forward to seeing him whenever possible, even getting restless if he's taking a long time arriving.[77]

While kidnapped, Peach often worries if Mario's hurt while on his adventure to save her.[78] In more later kidnappings, Peach believes Mario to be capable of himself,[79] even feeling comforted knowing that Mario's coming to rescue her.[80] To help motivate or send him help,[81] Peach often manages to sneak by letters for Mario, sometimes holding a power-up for him.[80] It's his determination that brings the two closer, but that's been the case of friction, like in the ending of Super Mario Odyssey.[82] Being the center of a tug of war, after being kidnapped around the glove, one side being Mario himself, frustrated her enough to express it. But just as quickly as it happened, their strong relationship with eachother had her quickly forgive him.

Bowser

Peach describes Bowser as the single greatest disaster to ever befall the Mushroom Kingdom.[63] She's pretty much had enough of him and visiting his castle while kidnapped,[83] but puts up with it for the time being.[84] After years of being kidnapped, she's all too happy to enact some revenge towards Bowser in the form of foiling his plans in one form or another.[85]

Princess Daisy

As the "Lordly Ladies" in Mario Party 6 and "Power Princesses" in Mario Party DS, Peach and Daisy are best friends and are always seen having good chemistry with one another.

Toadette

Called the "Pink Punishers" according to Mario Party 6, the two are very good friends to eachother. As Toadette is a citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach has an easier time inviting her over for cake.[86] Peach is also very supportive of her musical side, gifting her a pair of trumpets after hearing a very inspiring piece of hers.[87] Although she was confused at first at her "Peachette" form,[35] Peach just as quickly accepted it as Toadette's used it during future sporting events with her.

Luigi

Peach definitely sees Luigi as capable, definitely trying his best, though on a lesser regard compared to Mario.[88] Overall, he's a capable Green Escort.[89]

Other

According to Mario Party 6's team names, Peach believes Wario to be a "Royal Pain" and teaming up with Waluigi to be a complete "Anti-couple".

Peach's relationship with Yoshi is very trusting, as she trusted him and Mario to save Jewelry Land during Yoshi's Safari. Mario Party 6's team name with him calls them "Regal Friends".

Peach has bad chemistry with Petey Piranha according to Mario Superstar Baseball and Mario Super Sluggers. This makes sense, as she's had to experience being eaten by him back in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.[90]

Herself

Peach currently likes the way she looks, with her pink dress bringing out her golden hair. Although, if she were honest to herself, her need of wanting variety in her life has conflicted her being raised as a princess. All the times she had thought of cutting her hair short, someone talked her out of it, noting how that's unlike being a princess. The best she can do is making a ponytail, but she herself admits it's hardly a new look. Wild choices she once wanted was to flat iron or crimp her hair, even dying it purple. Her outfit too, while pink is her favorite color, has her wanting to experiment with a maroon outfit.[91]

Physical Appearance

Princess Peach's exact height is not currently known. The current estimate of her height suggests she's 1.79 m (5 feet and 10 inches) tall. Her natural hair color is blonde and her eyes are blue. To everyone, Peach is gorgeous and refined,[92] and once described to have perfectly cascading hair and sublime cheekbones.[93]

She wears a golden crown and a pink dress.

Abilities

She is a practitioner of magic.
