Paper Mario
Paper Mario was the recovery of the Star Spirits and Peach's Castle from its airborne status.
History
Bowser and Kammy Koopa have invaded the Star Haven and taken its Star Rod. In the process, they have also sealed all of the Star Spirits inside cards and guarded them behind many of his minions.[1]
In the meantime, Peach holds a party at her castle where everyone from across the Mushroom Kingdom is invited. The party is cut short however when Bowser's airborne castle emerges from under Peach's, bringing it above the clouds.[2] Mario attempts fighting Bowser, but the power of the Star Rod makes him impervious to Mario's attacks. Bowser sends Mario flying down, battered and unconscious.
Mario is found in Goomba Village and recovers with Goombario joining him.[3] They both defeat Goomboss, allowing them access to Toad Town and further into Shooting Star Summit to hear the Star Spirits' mission for Mario.[4] While returning from Shooting Star Summit, Princess Peach gifts Mario a Lucky Star thanks to her new delivery star, Twink.[5]
Chapter 1: Storming Koopa Bros. Fortress
Mario and Goombario arrive at Koopa Village to see it being overrun by Fuzzies, but they clear up soon after Mario drives them away.[6] Kooper also joins the team as they make it to Koopa Bros. Fortress where they fight the Koopa Bros. to release Eldstar. Bombette also joins the team after breaking the group free after being imprisoned for a few seconds.[7]
Chapter 2: The Mystery of Dry, Dry Ruins.
Mario, Goombario, Kooper, and Bombette take a train to Dry Dry Desert and makes it to Dry Dry Outpost to figure out how to uncover Dry Dry Ruins.[8] Parakarry joins the group and they fight Tutankoopa for the Star Spirit Mamar.
Chapter 3: The "Invincible" Tubba Blubba
Mario, Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, and Parakarry make their way to find a mansion that belongs to Lady Bow and her subjects. She holds the Star Spirit Skolar, but will only release him if Mario's group does a favor for her.[9]
Gusty Gulch has its Boo citizens recently be terrorized by the now-impervious and hungry Tubba Blubba. Lady Bow joins Mario's group to help find the key behind Tubba Blubba's recent invincibility. They eventually find Tubba Blubba's heart and has it return inside Tubba Blubba's chest. With Tubba Blubba defeated, Lady Bow pulls up her part of the deal and relinquishes the Star Spirit Skolar.[10]
Chapter 4: Trials in the Toy Box
Toad Town is currently being overrun by Shy Guys coming from the Toy Box hidden inside one of the vacant houses.[11] They free Watt and defeat the Shy Guy's leader behind the attack, General Guy, and, in turn, free Muskular.[12]
Chapter 5: Hot, Hot Times on Lavalava Island
Mario, Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Parakarry, Lady Bow, and Watt join Kolorado as they make it to Lavalava Island.[13] Kolorado's here to find treasure, while the rest are here to fight the Lava Piranha to free Misstar.[14] Sushi also joins the team.
Chapter 6: Dark Days in Flower Fields
Finding four seeds from Bub-ulbs across the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Parakarry, Lady Bow, Watt, and Sushi could enter Flower Fields in the Toad Town garden.[15]
The Flower Fields has been shrouded in clouds thanks to Huff N. Puff and his Puff Puff Machine. Lakilester defect from Huff N. Puff's orders and joins Mario's team. They then fight Huff N. Puff and save Klevar.[16]
Chapter 7: A Star Spirit on Ice
In Shiver City, someone might've died.[17] It was all a false alarm though, and the group continues to the Crystal Palace where they fight the Crystal King for Kalmar.[18]
With all Star Spirits saved, Mario, Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Parakarry, Lady Bow, Watt, Sushi, and Lakilester are able to take a ride to Bowser's Castle for their eventual fight against Bowser.[19]
Chapter 8: A Star-Powered Showdown!
The group climbs their way to Peach's Castle to have a rematch with Bowser. The new ability Mario's been gifted, Star Beam, can nullify Bowser's invincible status.[20] Bowser retreats and, even though the second rematch proved Bowser too powerful even for the Star Beam, Peach and Twink's amplified its power to genuinely defeat Bowser for the last time.[21]
A few days later, Peach invites everyone to the castle for the victory parade.[22] During the parade, Peach and Mario watch the firework show alone together.[23]
