New Super Mario Bros. 2
New Super Mario Bros. 2 was the kidnapping and eventual rescuing of Princess Peach, with a dash of coins everywhere.
History
After Mario and Luigi wave goodbye to Princess Peach to fly around via the Super Leaf to collect some coins in the air, they are suddenly attacked by the Koopalings. The Koopalings also reveal to have Peach in tow before flying away to Bowser's Castle. Mario and Luigi give chase.[1]
All throughout their adventure, there are a staggering amount of coins to collect, including the Gold Flower that has recently popped up in some areas.
Braving through each world, defeating the Koopalings manned in each area, Mario and Luigi reach Bowser's Castle and confront Bowser himself.[2] Dropping him down, they expect to free Peach, but her cage is hoisted upwards. Climbing upwards, the Koopalings shower their magic below, making Bowser grow to a gigantic level.
Climbing upwards while avoiding a stream of Bowser's flames and claws, they press a switch that makes the floor below Bowser buckle and freeing Peach at last.[3] Mario and Luigi then make their way home, with Peach in Mario's hands. The Koopalings and Bowser attempt a rematch, but their Clown Car crashes down, disabling everyone for a fight.[4]
Later on, Mario and Luigi adventure through World Star and reach the castle within. There, the Koopalings and Bowser are up for a rematch. After avoiding the Koopalings' magic, the Mario Bros. encounter Bowser in his Dry form.[5] The same fight occurs, with Bowser falling down, growing in size thanks to the Koopalings' magic, and a climb upwards ending with the floor Bowser's standing on crumbling down on him.

Timeline
- The Mushroom Kingdom is now full of coins. Perhaps this is a result of what the Zeekeeper did at the end of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
- Raccoon Suits appear, likely placing this game not long after the Super Leaves were spread around the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario 3D Land.
- Dry Bowser appears, likely placing this game after the events of Bowser Jr.’s Journey.
- The Koopalings turn Bowser giant, placing this game after the events of Bowser Jr.’s Journey.
- This game features a new design for Peach’s Castle, likely placing this title after previous games featuring the Castle’s appearance from Super Mario 64.
- The appearance of Bowser’s towers in this game differs from their appearance in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U, likely placing this game before those titles.
