NES Open Tournament Golf is Mario's steady journey into becoming a millionaire by golfing.

History

“Hello fellow golfers! I've always wanted to participate in a big time golf tournament with course locations in different countries, but I never thought I'd get the chance to do it. Well a few months ago I was surprised by an invitation to participate in the NES Open Golf Tournament! The competition is going to be though, as Steve, Mark, Tony, and Billy have more experience than I do.[1]”

At the NES Open Tournament, Mario quickly evolves from a rookie to professional golfer.[2][3][4] Now with some added experience, Mario then plays against multiple tournaments against some of the world's most experienced players[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

The more tournaments he wins, the more prize money he receives. Mario steadily accumulate $1 million as counted by Donkey Kong.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18]

This legendary win streak is being noticed by outsiders; people want to name golf tournaments after Mario,[19] expert golfers envy him and sponsors battle to get Mario on their team.[20]

At last, Mario finally becomes a millionaire and Peach kisses Mario because he's such a good golfer.[21]

Timeline

  • Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Daisy go golfing on Tour Earth, placing this game after Super Mario Land, but likely before the main titles of the Mario Golf series.
  • Peach and Daisy wear their classic outfits, placing this game before future titles in which they wear their modern outfits.
