Mario Party 9
Mario Party 9 is the rescue of the Mini Stars that were stolen by Bowser and Bowser Jr.
History
Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, a Koopa Troopa, a Yellow Toad, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, Yoshi, and Birdo were all watching the night sky glittering brightly with Mini Stars, when a massive vortex came to suck them all up. This all turns out to be the work of Bowser and Bowser Jr., who want to use the Mini Stars for their own use.[1]
Mario heads out along with his friends, determined to return the night sky with its Mini Stars. A Magikoopa and Shy Guy also join alongside. Reaching Toad Road, Bowser gets notified by his son that Mario's gang is heading there. Bowser, in retaliation, summons a Wiggler and a Lakitu to take care of the gang.[2] Despite the ambush, the group persists and continues collecting the stolen Mini Stars.
Their path continues, arriving at the supersecret Bob-omb Factory and being halted by a Whomp and King Bob-omb.[3] Boo's Horror Castle's road is guarded by Dry Bones and King Boo.[4] Blooper Beach's sandy ocean, filled with all the sunshine a guy could ever need, is defended by a Cheep Cheep and Blooper.[5] At Magma Mine, Bowser present his most devious minions yet: a Chain Chomp and Spike.[6]
The gang ultimately makes it to Bowser Station, Bowser's secret outer space hideaway and where he has been collecting all the Mini Stars.[7] After making it to Bowser, he grows in size but the team punts him into a dark vortex.[8]
Bowser's defeat encourages the Mini Stars to break out of their jars, releasing a long stream of stars out into the night sky.[9] Bowser and Bowser Jr. fly away in their Clown Cars, disappointed that his castle couldn't be decorated with Mini Stars.
Timeline
- Bowser mentions wanting to decorate his castle with Stars, likely placing this title prior to New Super Mario Bros. Wii where his castle is destroyed.
- This game features King Boo, likely placing it before he is recaptured in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.
- Daisy’s constellation description reads: “A constellation named after a princess who enjoys tennis, golf, soccer, and not getting kidnapped.”, which likely places this game after at least one game each in the Mario Tennis, Golf and Strikers series, but likely before the events of Super Mario Run.
- Bowser turns giant at the end of this game, placing it after the events of Bowser Jr.’s Journey.
- Bowser Jr. has the Junior Clown Car in this game, placing it after the events of Bowser Jr.’s Journey.
- Peach’s Castle in this game matches its appearance in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
- This game does not feature Rosalina, possibly indicating it takes place before Rosalina begins regularly spending time with Mario and his friends.
- Bowser is shown actively using a space base in this title, which is possibly where he was acting prior to the events of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2.
- A Wiggler with the Starburst symbol, likely indicating that he is a member of the Mandibug Clan, appears as a minion of Bowser’s in this game, likely placing it around the time of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, where Bowser first became allied with the Mandibugs.
- Bowser’s towers in this game have the same appearance as the towers in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U, likely placing this title after the events of New Super Mario Bros. 2.
- In the Minigame Bowser Jr. Breakdown, Bowser Jr. uses a device with hammers, resembling a smaller Megahammer. With this possibility being a precursor to Megahammer, this title likely takes place prior to Super Mario Galaxy 2.
