Mario Kart Tour was a very extensive series of races throughout both Mario's Planet and Tour Earth.

History

As the racers scouted through each location to host their racetracks on, they would all get deeply engrossed in its culture:

  • Mario & Peach had fun exploring Tokyo together, even getting into the classic Japanese style before the start of the Tokyo Tour.[1]
  • Toad, Peach, and a Shy Guy were in Paris trying out all of the food prior to the 2019 Paris Tour.[2]
  • While in London during the London Tour, Daisy took the opportunity between tracks for some window shopping as the Toads were trying to hold onto her towering bought merch.[3]
  • In the frigid forests of Vancouver for the Vancouver Tour, Wario fished up some fish to come with his fried garlic, not noticing a bear who was curious about the delicious smell.[4]
  • During the intense Los Angeles Tour, Mario and Toad took a step back to relax on the sandy beaches of Los Angeles.[5]
  • While it was cold in Berlin during the Berlin Tour, with Mario and Peach dressed for the weather (and Toad taking pictures), Luigi decided to wear full lederhosen while eating a large bratwurst.[6]
  • For the Sydney Tour, Rosalina and Baby Mario toured throughout the city, drinking some juice and wearing koala merch respectively.[7]
  • As the Singapore Tour wrapped up and Toad was looking through a map, Luigi posed in front of the Merlion statue as Mario watched on.[8]
  • With Daisy and Rosalina just arriving in Amsterdam for the Amsterdam Tour, they sent a photo as they were collecting a bundle of roses.[9]
  • In Bangkok, Daisy and Toad enjoyed the beautiful city's fruits just before the Bangkok Tour[10]
  • Touring the new location for the Spring Tour, Toad rode on Yoshi all throughout Athens, allowing him to take pictures more efficiently.[11]
  • Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong were having a blast throughout Rome for the Night tour. Donkey Kong was all outfitted in gladiator attire, not noticing Diddy Kong was warning him about the loose Chain Chomp approaching him.[12]
  • The 2023 Summer Tour has Mario & Luigi enjoy a wide variety of Spanish cuisines in Madrid.[13]

These races were split across multiple types of Tours, which are then split across a number of character-based cups. While some of the Tours were themed after the cities they'll be racing through, other Tours either focus on the holiday such as the Valentine's Tour, a character like the Baby Rosalina Tour, or even something general such as the Cooking Tour. On special occasions, there'll be a Tour that pits two racers together as the team captain; Mario vs. Luigi, Toad vs. Toadette and Wario vs. Waluigi are examples of these types of tours.

The passage of time continued throughout Tour Earth, and the racers would celebrate the planet's many end-of-year celebrations according to the New Year's 2021 glider, the New Year's 2022 glider, and the New Year's 2023 glider.

  • Peachette makes an appearance alongside Peach, placing this game after the events of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
  • Nabbit appears as a playable character, likely placing this game after the events of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
  • Various outfits, many of which are costumes that Mario bought in Crazy Cap stores during Super Mario Odyssey, make an appearance in this title, placing it after the events of Super Mario Odyssey.
  • The Red, Blue, Purple and Gold members of the Roving Racers from Koopa Freerunning return as playable characters, placing this title after the events of Super Mario Odyssey.
  • Captain Toad and Toadette in her explorer outfit make an appearance with their Clanky Kart being based on the mine carts from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, likely placing this title after the events of that game.
  • Super Bells appear as items, likely placing this game after the events of Super Mario 3D World.
  • Pauline appears and references lines of ”Jump Up, Super Star!” likely placing this game after the events of Super Mario Odyssey.
  • Peach’s Vacation outfit, Explorer outfit, Wintertime outfit, part of her Yukata and the Lochlady Dress from Super Mario Odyssey all reappear in this title, placing it after the events of Super Mario Odyssey.
  • King Boo appears, placing this before he is recaptured in Luigi's Mansion 3.
  • A variant of King Boo in this title has the power-enhancing jewel in his crown from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Luigi's Mansion 3, as well as his physical appearance from the Luigi's Mansion series. This may indicate that this title takes place a short time before Luigi’s Mansion 3.
  • Mario and Luigi's Golf outfits from Family Computer Golf: U.S. Course/Mario Open Golf/NES Open Tournament Golf appear, placing this game after those titles. They also have golf clubs while using these outfits, possibly placing this title close to the events of Mario Golf: Super Rush, where they also appear.
