King Boo is the leader of the Boos and others Ghosts. He is a member of the Koopa Troop and mortal enemy of Luigi. While King Boo has made many appearances, some aren't the real King Boo such as in Super Mario Sunshine where Mario fought a clone created out of Goop^[1] and in Super Mario Bros. Wonder where it ended up being a regular Boo under the effects of a Wonder Flower^[2].

History

Super Mario 64 DS

King Boo was one of the 3 bosses sent by Bowser to capture Mario, Luigi and Wario. King Boo held the key that trapped luigi and hid inside a painting in Big Boo’s Haunt. Mario entered the arena and fought King Boo in order to earn Luigi's freedom^[3].

Luigi's Mansion

After Professor E Gadd captured Boolossus, King Boo was angered by this so rallied a bunch of Boos to raid his lab and free the rest of his collection of portrait ghosts. He created an illusionary mansion and tricked the Mario Bros by sending out a scam invitation claiming that they won it in a contest. When Mario arrived at the mansion he was placed inside a portrait. When Luigi arrived at the mansion he hid in the storage room with 50 other Boos to surprise attack Luigi but when they saw the Poltergust 3000 on Luigi they hid in various parts of the mansion^[4]. After Luigi caught all the portrait ghosts and Boos he faced off against King Boo who used an illusionary suit of Bowser. Luigi won against King Boo and he was later captured within a painting^[5].

Mario Kart Double Dash

Sometime in between the events of Luigi’s Mansion and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! King Boo was freed from his portrait after it was sold in a garage sale. His partner was Petey Piranha.

Mario Superstar Baseball

King Boo was a member of Wario’s team the Wario Greats. He has good chemistry with a Boo and Petey Piranha while having bad chemistry with Luigi and his younger self.

Super Princess Peach

After Bowser kidnapped Mario, Luigi and multiple toads. King Boo was tasked with guarding one of them in Shriek Mansion^[6]. He was later defeated by Princess Peach and the Toad was freed.

Mario Party 8

In Mario Party 8 King Boo appears on the board King Boo’s Haunted Hideaway hiding in one of three altars and giving a star to anyone who finds him^[7].

Mario Kart DS

King Boo battled Princess Peach in Mario Kart DS's Mission Mode. He attacked by stealing Coins but he was defeated when Princess Peach collected 50 coins^[8].

Mario Super Sluggers

King Boo appears once again as a member of Wario’s team. He retains his good chemistry with a Boo and Petey Piranha while now having good chemistry with a Wiggler and King K. Rool while retaining his bad chemistry with Luigi and his baby self while now having bad chemistry with Mario and his baby self, Yoshi and the younger counterparts of Princess Peach and Princess Daisy. He only joins the players team if they have Boos on it.

Mario Party 9

In Mario Party 9 King Boo guarded over some of the Mini Stars stolen by Bowser. He was stationed at Boo’s Horror Castle.

Mario Kart Wii

King Boo participated in yet another Mario Kart Tournament.

Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon

A while after his portrait was sold in a garage sale, the freed King Boo shattered the [[Dark Moon] causing the once peaceful ghosts of Evershade Valley to become hostile^[9]. It is later revealed that he also kidnapped Mario and placed him in a painting once again. After Luigi collects all the Dark Moon pieces, He captures Luigi and takes to an unknown paranormal dimension. He reveals to Luigi that he plans on using his army of ghosts to take over Evershade Valley and the Mushroom Kingdom. After a battle with Luigi he is sucked into the Poltergust 5000 and placed back into a portrait.

Mario and Luigi Paper Jam

Sometime between the events of Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Mario & Luigi Paper Jam King Boo was freed by Hellen Gravely. In Gloomy Woods King Boo kidnaps Mario and Paper Mario, leaving Luigi all alone^[10]. Luigi saves Mario but when he and Mario find Paper Mario it turns out to be King Boo in disguise. When King Boo is defeated the Bros go on to Mount Brrr

Mario Golf World Tour

In Mario Golf World Tour King Boo is seen floating around the golf course near Bowser’s Castle.

Mario Party 10

In Mario Party 10 King Boo appears in Haunted Trail. He is fought using light switches^[11].

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

King Boo participates in another Mario Kart Tournament.

Mario Party Star Rush

In Mario Party: Star Rush he appears in the boss minigame “King Boo’s Light Smite” where players must shine light from Light Boxes at him.

Mario Tennis Aces

King Boo appears as a boss in Mario Tennis Aces. When Frenzy Time is active he hovers around the court. During that time he can be hit by players to get Coins

Dr Mario World

In Dr Mario World King Boo appears as a doctor to stop the Virus invasion.

Mario Party Superstars

In Mario Party Superstars King Boo appears in Horror Land replacing the Big Boo that was there during the events of Mario Party 2. He is only available at night time and he can summon other Boos to steal Coins and Stars from others.

Mario Kart Tour

King Boo participated in yet another Mario Kart Tournament. In some races he appeared wearing his jewel crown. He also used a Golden Drink to race in his gold form.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass

King Boo participated in yet another Mario Kart Tournament.
