Full name | Donkey Kong III |
Species | Kong |
Residence | Donkey Kong Island |
Donkey Kong is the son of Donkey Kong Jr. and grandson of Cranky Kong.
History
Donkey Kong was brought by a stork to an adult Donkey Kong Jr. and an unknown second party. A star fell into him, making him the last of the star children.
Yoshi’s Island DS
It's unclear how, but the infant Donkey Kong was kidnapped by Kamek's Toadies from his tree hut and brought to Baby Mario's time.[1] He managed to escape the floating Bowser's Castle, fall on Yoshi's Island, and landed on a Yoshi where he assisted them in saving all of the babies.[2] After defeating the future Bowser and saving all of the babies of this time, DK was returned to his original time.
Baby Donkey Kong grew up during this time, raised by Cranky Kong himself.[3] During this time, he had grown a significant banana hoard under his treehouse and achieved a good number of friends, most importantly being Diddy Kong who is his closest buddy. Cranky Kong then relinquishes his original name, Donkey Kong, and his tie to his grandson, becoming Cranky Kong and making his grandson Donkey Kong III.
Donkey Kong Country
As part of his hero training, Donkey Kong appointed Diddy Kong to watch over his banana hoard, tagging him when midnight strikes. However, he slept through his watch and was awoken by Cranky Kong who told him about his banana hoard being stolen and Diddy going missing.[4] After journeying through through Donkey Kong Island to get all of his bananas with his buddy Diddy, suffering bumps and bruises along the way,[5] he defeated King K. Rool and decided to go back to sleep.[6]
Donkey Kong Land
Suffering for what seemed like hours listening to Cranky Kong berating his latest adventure, Donkey Kong retaliated that his adventure was good enough for it to happen again. Indeed, Cranky Kong contacted the Kremlings again to steal his banana hoard.[5] By journeying through many new worlds, the Kongs take the blimp to New Donk City and defeat King K. Rool there, returning their banana hoard finally.
Mario Vs Donkey Kong
Lazing on his couch, Donkey Kong was flipping through several TV channels until hearing about the new Mini Mario toys. He's enamored by its features and rushes to the city to see that all of the toys had been sold out. He then gets the idea to break into the Mario Toy Company building and rob its processing line of its Mini Marios.[7] Bagging all of the toys into his personalized pouch, he's chased around by Mario. After being smacked around across many regions, Donkey Kong finds out that his pouch is completely empty by squeezing himself through the many doors. Mario laughs at this, the Mini Marios laugh at this, and even the Toad workers. Donkey Kong becomes enraged and kidnaps the Toads, who Mario frees not soon after.[8]
Donkey Kong falls off the building he took the kidnapped Toads to. His fall is softened by a truck holding more Mini Marios, who he steals inside his pouch not soon after. After going through the same locations, Donkey Kong unleashes a great Donkey Kong mech prepared to destroy Mario.[9] After that mech ends up being destroyed, Donkey Kong is left crying where he is then gifted a free Mini Mario by Mario himself.

Kamek flew around a bunch of invitations for a grub over at Bowser's Castle. Irrestitably lured, DK raced off to the castle to get first crack at the snacks.[14] However, they were then ambushed by Dry Bones, who then turned DK into stone as he was lifting a tree stump.[15] A shrunken Mario and friends soon arrived, who helped return Donkey Kong back to normal by defeating Dry Bones. Remembering the grub, he continued rushing his way to Bowser's Castle.[16] Mario and friends arrived far earlier than them, though.
Barging into the castle doors, Donkey and Diddy skurmished around the castle, knocking over Bowser and breaking the Minimizer in search of the promised grub.[17] Unbeknownst to DK, Mario and friends were returned to their original size, ultimately putting an end to Bowser's scheme. While the team were off enjoying playing Triangle Twisters, Donkey and Diddy had finished eating all of the grub laid on the table.

Personality
Donkey Kong's been first described in Donkey Kong Country as "the king of swing, the thrilla gorilla, the prime primate".[22] His trademark strength has saved him a bunch of times,[23] scaring his rivals,[13] and he sometimes spends the day training himself to invent new moves.[24] As of right now, he's considered the king (or lord)[25] of the jungle,[26] overwhelming his opponents with his jungle instincts.[18] He'll always work together with his partners and friends to restore peace to DK Island.[27]
He's the leader of the Kongs,[28] and is willing to risk his life to save both his friends,[29] his island, and his bananas.[30] Donkey Kong's strength doesn't allow him to be pushed around,[11] his mighty power second to none,[26] compared to have more strength than a 12-gauge steam train,[31] with speed to match too.[32] His swings are a thing of heroic proportions,[33] advising anyone to not get in his way.[34] As a result of that strength, Donkey Kong prides himself of this power.[35][36] Despite his pride, Donkey Kong is compassionate, easy-going, and a friendly person,[37][38] though a bit absentminded and scatterbrained,[27][32] knowing to get bored of long talks.[30]
Donkey Kong loves bananas[27] - he often wears neckties as a sign of his dedication towards the fruit[25] - but his steady diet of bananas has gained him some weight.[39] Despite living lazy and carefree, even taking breaks from partying,[40] Donkey Kong is known to fly in a fit of rage whenever things don't go his way, like having his bananas messed with or not getting the opportunity to get a Mini-Mario toy.[41][42] Whenever his strength doesn't get him what he wants, he resorts to retreating into himself, crying, and throwing a temper tantrum.[43] Naturally, the only way to get him back in a good mood is to reward him, either via bananas or giving him what he wants.[37] He's also a deep sleeper, sometimes sleeping through his watch.[44]
It's said he also raps,[11] loves swinging on vines,[45] and ever since he had discovered the bongos in Donkey Konga, he's been making jungle music on his island.[39]
