History

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Birdo's egg was in Nimbus Castle, her egg taken care of by a Beezo.

During their trip inside the Valentina-controlled castle, Mario and his gang discovered her egg. Inside, Birdo asked if they could play with her as she's lonely. Cracking the egg wide open, Birdo was born and introduced herself as she fought the group.[1]

After being defeated, Birdo retreated back into her egg, gave the gang the key deeper inside the castle, and asked them not to forget her.

Super Mario Bros. 2

Birdo joined the 8 bits as one of its important members. She and the rest of the 8 bits promptly took over Subcon, which sparked the people of Subcon to ask Mario to help free them.

Birdo and other members of her species were stationed at Mask Gates, guarding the Crystal Ball that allows the gate to open up.[2]

In 4-3, she shoots an egg that allows Mario and the gang the only path forwards in stopping Wart's invasion.[3]

BS Super Mario USA

She partook once again in the 8 bits' invasion of Subcon. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad were brought to Subcon again to thwart the 8 bits' invasion.

Birdo defected from the 8 bits at this time, joining Mario's side.

Wario's Woods

Birdo joined Toad in his adventure to save the Peaceful Woods from Wario's control.[4] She helped Toad point out when Wario would retaliate by sending monsters and throwing a Thwomp down under him.[5]

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

Birdo disguised herself as Princess Peach when Cackletta and Fawful visited the Mushroom Kingdom, which caused the stolen voice to anger the Beanstar instead of awakening it normally.[6][7] Later on, she passed the tryouts for the role of Popple's new rookie, and fought Mario and Luigi alongside him.[8][9] After their battle, Birdo decided to set out on her own to continue her dream of becoming a star.[10]

Awake, she was later seen in Shogun Studios' Big Sho' Theater, performing as the love interest between two street Paper Macho Koopa Troopas gangs. Mario was prompted to enter the stage when Birdo acted out a plea for help from someone fitting Mario's qualifications. After Mario defeated these street ruffians, Birdo stage-kissed Mario before exiting the stage.

Relationships

Mario

Birdo describes Mario as a strong little go-getter. A rugged handyman who gets the job done who's got sensitive eyes; a burly mustache; and nice, beefy calves to power his big jumps.[25] One of her nicknames for him is Overalls.[26] After their performance at Big Sho' Theater, Birdo dreams of their next performance.[27]
