Abstract

A rough outline of Mario & Donkey Kong's theorised path during Donkey Kong (Gameboy)

This theory proposes the following locations for the Worlds of Donkey Kong (Gameboy):

Arguments

  • Argument 1: Construction Site and Big City are the locations where the original Donkey Kong (Arcade) took place. New Donk City is also where Donkey Kong (Arcade) took place, therefore they are the same location as one-another.

  • Argument 2: The Forest is just outside the boundaries of the City, as can be seen during the in-game cutscenes.[1]

  • Argument 4: Mario, Donkey Kong and Pauline are seen exiting the boat onto an Island where the Jungle is located.[3] The Jungle has a very similar appearance to that of the Kongo Jungle. One of the Jungle's stages, 4-4, is also where they come across Donkey Kong Jr. for the first time during this title who sticks with his father from that point on until the end of the game, which would make sense with the Kongo Jungle being the Kongs' ancestral home.[4]

  • Argument 5: The Desert is an Egyptian-styled desert with pyramids, however it lacks a Koopa theme, making it unlikely to be Bask or a similar desert, making the Birabuto Kingdom the most likely candidate. The distance between Metro Kingdom/Donkey Kong Island and the Mushroom Continent makes it unlikely to be there either, with the much closer proposed Sarasaland locations fitting much better.

  • Argument 6: The characters are seen boarding a the Airplane in the Desert during the in-game cutscenes. The Airplane is seen landing by the Iceberg.[5][6]

  • Argument 7: Iceberg appears to get separated from a larger piece of icy terrain by a Faiachū.[6] Many of the Iceberg's enemies bear some resemblance to other species known to inhabit the Snow Kingdom, such as Penpens to Tucks & other Penguin species and Tododesus & Purupurus to Shiverians and other mammalian species known to inhabit the Kingdom.

  • Argument 8: Mario, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. and Pauline would've reached these locations from the Snow Kingdom thanks to the Iceberg breaking off and floating to the Mushroom Kingdom coast, based on them arriving at the Rocky-Valley on blocks of ice.[7] Rocky-Valley and the Tower feature many traits that are signatures of the Mushroom Kingdom, such as Pipes, ? Blocks and Mushrooms.[8] These areas also highly resemble many of the mountainous regions seen throughout the Mushroom Kingdom in multiple other titles.
