Theory: Gloomy Galleon from Donkey Kong 64 represents the remnants of Crocodile Island, after it sunk down in Donkey Kong Country 2.

  • Argument 1: Clapper the Seal was first introduced on Crocodile Island. A Seal resembling the appearance of Clapper the Seal reappears in Gloomy Galleon.
  • Argument 2: The level is accesed through a portal in K. Rool’s island, a mobile fortress that could impossibly house a deep cliffside cove. The portal being placed on K. Rool’s island connects it to the Kremlings.
  • Argument 3:The area is refered to as "reptilian lagoons” and "forgotten cove", clearly connecting it to the Kremlings and suggesting, that the cove once was of more importance (probably before the island got destroyed).
  • Argument 4: The Gangplank Galleons last appearence was in DKC2/DKL2 where it was stranded on the cliffs of Crocodile Island. Therefore the ship must have been destroyed or highly damaged during the destruction of Crocodile Island

The shipwrecks found in Gloomy Galleon are refered to as the "the gloomy, rotting remains of the King’s once proud armada" in the DK64 manual. That could suggest that the Shipwrecks were part of the Gangplank Galleon or some of the other stranded ships on Crocodile Island, as found in Crocodile Cauldron and Krem Kay.
