Pauline is the current mayor of New Donk City and Mario’s ex-girlfriend.

History

Donkey Kong

Pauline was kidnapped by Donkey Kong (now known as Cranky Kong), a Kong owned by her then-boyfriend, Mario.[1] [2] Donkey Kong took Pauline up to the top of a construction site in New Donk City.[3] Mario eventually reached the top of the construction site, defeated Donkey Kong and rescued Pauline.[4]

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis

Mario and his VIP guest Pauline were at grand opening of Super Mini World. Donkey Kong, a worker at the Mario Toy Company, was in the crowd of Toads watching the Ribbon cutting. Donkey Kong was in love with Pauline and jumped on the stage to offer her a Mini Donkey Kong toy, however she choose Mario’s Mini Mario gift instead. Donkey Kong became angry and kidnaped Pauline, taking her into the elevator and up top floor of building.[5] After chasing Donkey Kong up all eight floors, Mario find Pauline sitting in a room with a cake and many present. Donkey Kong entered the room, looking Sad. Pauline picks up a Mini Donkey Kong from the table and Kissed it, making Donkey Kong happy. Some Toads entered the room. Everyone in the room waved.[6]

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!

Mario and Pauline were at the opening of the expansion to Super Mini Mario World. Donkey Kong got into a line of toads, but when he got to the front, the park had sold out of tickets. This made Donkeys Kong angry and he Kidnaped Pauline from the stage. Mario saw the Mini Mario Toys and decided to use them to save Pauline.[7] After Climbing 4 floors Mario entered a room where Pauline was looking out a window.[8] Donkey Kong pressed a light switch and and all the lights in the room turned off. Donkey Kong grabbed Pauline and they jumped out the window. Mario and his Mini Mario toys followed, Jumping out the same window.[9] After traveling though some more floors, Mario entered another room and was surprised to see Pauline and Donkey Kong together. Pauline had a checklist and it was revealed that she had been working the whole time to test the Mini Mario Toys out.[10]

Mario Vs Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!

Mario and Pauline opened a new theme park called Mini Land, and gave a free Mini Pauline toy to the first 100 guests. Donkey Kong arrived at the park, only to find out that he was the 101st guest. Furious, he kidnapped the real Pauline and ran off with her.[11] After chasing Donkey Kong through all of Mini Land's attractions, Mario rescued Pauline at the Final Ferris Wheel.[12]

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move

After the success of Mini land, The Mario Toy Company opened a Mini Toy Carnival. Pauline and Donkey Kong ran an arcade, inside the carnival.[13]

Mario Vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars

Pauline was kidnaped by Donkey Kong.[14] Mario chased Donkey Kong through 6 worlds, and then entered a a dark room. The lights suddenly turned on and Mario saw there was surprise party for him. Pauline, Donkey Kong, two toads were there.[15]

Super Mario Odyssey

When Mario first arrived at New Donk City in the Metro Kingdom, it was night time and raining. Pauline and Some New Donkers were watching Bowsers airship, and the Mechawiggler, which was sitting at the top of the New Donk city hall skyscraper.[16] When Mario went to talk to Pauline she said she was busy, as she was trying to find a way to save her city. She was annoyed that Bowser had put posters advertising his wedding to Peach, all over the city.[17] Mario headed into the city and defeated the Mechawiggler.[18] Latter, Pauline thanked Mario for saving the city, invited him to the upcoming festival and asked him to find the four backup Musicians.[19]

After finding the four Musicians, Pauline asked Mario to go and fix the underground power plant.[20]. When Mario got the power plant, Pauline was already there as she wanted to get a first hand look at the problem and wanted to teach Bowser and his friends a lesson.[21] Mario restored power to the city and the city festival started, with Mario being allowed to participate.[22] The festival retold the events of Donkey Kong. Pauline sung the song Jump Up, Super Star!, on a stage in front of the top of New Donk city hall, with the musicians.[23] When Mario reached the stage Pauline said she was dedicating the festival to him, to thank him for helping her and gave him a Multi Moon as a gift.[24]

Mario Tennis Aces

Pauline's first tennis tournament was in Mario Tennis Aces, where she wore a sleeveless red outfit with a skirt, a yellow wristband, and black and white sneakers.[25]

Mario Kart Tour

Pauline took part in the Mario Kart Tour Grand Prix. The special item she used was the Lucky Seven. She wore red dress, gold earrings, gold bracelets and red lipstick.[26] Other outfits she wore were the Party Time outfit, a silver and red dress with black gloves and silver earrings [27] and the Rose outfit, a red heart shaped dress. [28]

Mario

Mario and Pauline had a romantic relationship while Mario still lived in New Donk City. When Mario went to the Mushroom Kingdom, however, the two grew apart, and Mario fell in love with Princess Peach before breaking up with Pauline.[29] Despite breaking up, they remained friends.[30] [31] Pauline has helped Mario with his Mini Mario Toy Company. Pauline was invited to the opening of Super Mini Mario World, as a VIP guest and then she worked with the company to test out the Mini Mario Toy.[32] [33]. Later Pauline was a special guest at the opening of the Mini-Land theme park, and a Mini Pauline toy was created based on her for the first 100 customers.[34]

Cranky Kong

Being her kidnapper, Cranky Kong and Pauline did not seem to have a good relationship during the events of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong (Gameboy). They appear to have made up at the end of Donkey Kong (Gameboy), having stood together happily in front of the Tower.[35] It is unknown where they currently stand, as they have not interacted since, but during Super Mario Odyssey, Pauline said that while Cranky Kong kidnapping her was traumatic at the time, it helped make her the person she is now, viewing it in a somewhat positive light.[36]

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong had a crush on Pauline and Kidnaped her multiple times, but never hurt her. He was jealous of Mario and Pauline's friendship. However Pauline made up with Donkey Kong for kidnaping her each time. Donkey Kong and Pauline have also worked together on many occasions. They tested the Mini Mario Toys out in Super Mini Mario World.[37] In the Mini Toy Carnival they ran an arcade together.[38]. The pair also worked together to put on a surprise party for Mario.[39]

I guess that's where he meets Peach and changes his mind (laughs).. Kameyama then says「で、その後、マリオが有名になったのでポリーンはふられちゃったんですね、きっと（笑）。」 which means And after that, Mario became famous, so Pauline must have been dumped (laughs)..
