Pauline is the current mayor of New Donk City and Mario’s ex-girlfriend.
History
Donkey Kong
Pauline is kidnapped by Donkey Kong (now known as Cranky Kong), a gorilla owned by her then-boyfriend, Mario. Donkey Kong takes Pauline up to the top of a building in New Donk City. Mario eventually reaches the top of the building, defeating Donkey Kong and rescuing Pauline.
Mario Vs Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!
Mario and Pauline open a new theme park called Mini Land, and give a free Mini Pauline toy to the first 100 guests. Donkey Kong arrives at the park, only to find out that he is the 101st guest. Furious, he kidnaps the real Pauline and runs off with her. After chasing Donkey Kong through all of Mini Land's attractions, Mario rescues Pauline at the Final Ferris Wheel.

Pauline's first tennis tournament was in Mario Tennis Aces, where she wore a sleeveless red outfit with a skirt, a yellow wristband, and black and white sneakers.

Mario
Mario and Pauline had a romantic relationship while Mario still lived in New Donk City. When Mario got sent to the Mushroom Kingdom, however, they slowly started growing apart, and Mario fell in love with Princess Peach. Despite breaking up, they are still on good terms with each other.
Cranky Kong
Being her kidnapper, Cranky Kong (named Donkey Kong at the time) and Pauline did not seem to have a good relationship during the events of Donkey Kong. It is unknown where they currently stand, as they have not interacted since.
