Super Mario Bros. 3

Grass Land was invaded by Bowser and the Koopa Troop during the events of Super Mario Bros. 3. Larry Koopa had been sent by Bowser to make mischief in the Kingdom as a part of Bowser's revenge plot after his defeat during the events of Super Mario Bros..[2] With a base of operations in his airship, Larry attacked Grass Land on a stormy day and stole the King's Magic Wand, before transforming him into a Cobrat.[3] The Koopa Troop quickly took over much of Grass Land. Mario and Luigi, at the behest of Princess Peach, set out to save Grass Land and its inhabitants. After making their way to Grass Land's Castle, Mario & Luigi boarded the Airship and, defeated Larry Koopa, before returning the Megic Wand to the King. Grass Land was the first country of the Mushroom World that Mario explored; after finishing there, Mario moved on to Desert Land.[4][5]

Mario Kart DS

Much later, Mario and Luigi, along with their other opponents and many spectators, travelled to Grass Land during part of the Mario Kart DS Grand Prix, where a racecourse in Grass Land, the Figure-8 Circuit, served as the first course in the Mushroom Cup. During [[Mission Mode], the circuit was also used by Mario in Mission 1-1 and Yoshi in Mission 2-2.

General Information

Geography

Grass Land is a kingdom on the Mushroom Continent. It's is a coastal region, with the sea being open to the east of the country. It is located to the south of Jewelery Land and bordered to the west by the Mushroom Kingdom & Koopa Kingdom and to the south by Desert Land, with Pipe Land lying in the ocean to the east. Grass Land is part of the Mushroom World and and as such its landscape is very similar to that of the central Mushroom Kingdom.

Distinguishing Features and Landmarks

The features of Grass Land are quite similar to those of the Mushroom Kingdom, having cylindrical Hills topped by domes. Unlike the Mushroom Kingdom, these hills are all green and have quite simplistic patterns, such as diamonds, stripes and polka-dots.[6][7][8] Many hills with eyes also appear in Grass Land.[9][10] Despite its name, much of Grass Land appears to be covered in brown soil rather than grass, such as 1-1 and 1-3. The area of Grass Land around 1-5 also has rocky terrain, with the rest of the kingdom having either dried or living grass covering the terrain, often with gentle hills or Bolted Blocks.

There are few known Grass Land settlements. Grass Land Castle is the capital, as well as the home of the King. There are a few other scattered buildings too, such as the Toad Houses. Grass Land is shown to make use of Pipes, P-Switches Note Blocks, Brick Blocks and ? Blocks, much like the rest of the Mushroom World. They also have items such as Coins, Super Mushrooms, 1-Up Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Super Stars and Super Leaves. Grass Land is also the home of Figure-8 Circuit, a Mario Kart course built in the shape of the number 8, giving it conditions perfect for high-speed racing.

Inhabitants

While not much is known about the population, Grass Land is shown to be inhabited by Toads and their human King. While various Goombas and Koopas appeared in Grass Land during Super Mario Bros. 3, it is unknown if they reside there typically, as the Koopa Troop were carrying out an invasion during that time. Both red and green Piranha Plants inhabit the pipes of this Kingdom as well.
